So… you’ve started high school. How are you feeling about it? Is it overwhelming? Weird? Different? Do you wish you were back in primary school?

The main differences between primary school and high school are:

  • You have different teachers, classrooms and books for each subject
  • You’re expected to do more homework
  • You have more tests
  • You have to write more essays and present things less creatively
  • The topics start to get serious and you won’t be interested in all of them

High school is the next step up the ladder of life. It’s preparing you for the outside world. It’s teaching you how to cope as an adult. It’s not fun and play anymore. There will be things that are more difficult and boring, as some things in life just are (I’m yet to find anyone who thinks paying bills and doing a tax return are interesting!).

This is a FOL… a Fact Of Life. Facts Of Life cannot be changed, but you CAN change how you deal with them. You have two choices: you can resist the change and struggle and fight your way through high school, wishing it would all go away. Or you can take this Fact Of Life by the shoulders and say, “I’m going to give this my best shot!”, work out some good systems to support you and look to the future with enthusiasm… or at least with a positive mindset. Because virtually nobody REALLY thinks Erosion is terribly exciting.
