Are you stuck in a negative cycle of losing things, forgetting things or not getting things done?

We get into a pattern of negative behaviour sometimes. We resort to doing the things we know because the options seem really difficult; it’s easier to just do what we regularly do rather than putting in effort to change.  Sometimes we just really don’t care or can’t be bothered.

It’s best not to wait for the lightbulb moment when you suddenly “care” or “can be bothered”.  For some people that lightbulb moment of motivation never, ever happens and by that time you’ve failed subjects at school. It’s best just to DO IT!

The two golden rules of getting organised are:

  • Set up small, achievable systems and give yourself a small time frame to do them in so you are setting yourself up to succeed.  An example of a small, achievable system might be to sort the papers in your locker and schoolbag into expandable files or folders and maintain this for a week, then two weeks. Or entering assignments into your phone and setting reminders for when stuff is due.
  • Adapting a positive mindset, even if you are only pretending to be positive at the start. Fake it til you make it!

Breaking the negative cycle takes a simple decision, backed up with putting a few small things into place. Then sit back and watch how that small system has a ripple effect in your life and things start to become easier to manage. You won’t look back.
