I went to the gorgeous island of Koh Samui in Thailand for a holiday with my family. My daughter fell in the pond. Of course it was a good opportunity to explain a bit about how concentration works…
Concentration is: Being able to pay attention to ONE THING at a time. To have “tunnel vision” on the task at hand. To complete that task fully before moving onto another one.
This is really tough when you have a “Busy Brain”!
Tips for Improving Focus:
- Change your mindset. Tell yourself you can do it. Don’t give up before you give it a really good go.
- Start small and grow. Hyper-focus for a short period of time and gradually extend the length as you improve. You will get stronger and it will become easier.
- Remember it takes at least 21 days to form a new habit and get rid of an old one. Repeat your period of hyperfocus every day to make it become a habit.
- Make a concentration plan which outlines your goals and how you’re going to go about reaching them. Make your goals realistic and reward yourself when you succeed.
- Don’t give up. If you don’t succeed the first time, try again. And again. And again. And again. You will get there if you are determined to.
